10 Suggestions for Your Success

Much of what we focus on with my posts center around being successful. Now while there is absolutely no short cut, I have come up with a list of goodies for you to peruse and ponder. A top ten list is always a good place to start. There are obviously much more than simply ten ways to be successful, but I know that if we break it apart into smaller, easier-to-do segments, then no one becomes overwhelmed and it is easy to step forward on your road to success. Again, I want it to be clear, that success is measured exactly the way YOU want it measured. It can be a financial success, but just as easily it can be a spiritual or creative success. You can even be successful with the ladies (guys) or the guys (ladies), just start out by following your four step plan and get behind YOURSELF! You need to be the one who pushes you – and then others will find it easier and more pleasing to be part of your success!

1. Work at something you enjoy. This is number One on my list for many reasons. But if you can get up every morning and want to get going because you love your job, or love your volunteer position or just love what it is you are going to do today – then every today is a great one!

2. Do something that is worthy of your time and talent. This is tied directly into doing something you enjoy, but you need to feel useful and satisfied in what you do, even if that means adding to your already busy schedule with something that warms your soul.

3. Be the most positive person you can be, and then some. I know it is not always the simplest thing to do. Sometimes it is downright impossible to be positive, but the answer to that is simply not being negative or allowing yourself to be dragged into someone else’s negative. Start simple with little positive things and make them habitual, do them every day and then move on. Stay away from those negative thoughts, and when you feel one coming on… Smile!

4. Be generous. Being generous does not always mean with money. Be generous with your time or your talents are just as needed in our world as your money. Realize that Emerson’s Law of Compensation is always in effect. So give, give as much as you can, and never, never ever do it for reciprocity!

5. Be a self-starter. Here is one of the most important tools in your success kit. You really need to get behind yourself and push, push, push! You know you can do it, you can do anything. So get going!

6. Stop blaming others. Your success and your failures are yours. They are not anyone else’s, there are no excuses. Stay away from the easy-to-escape method of blaming others for your issues. Stay away from the “what if’s” and all the other negative escapes. Step up – take the blame and just get up, brush yourself off and get going again!

7. Go the extra mile. Give people more than they expect or deserve each and every day. Do more at work than your job description entails. Napoleon Hill has some great quotes on this very subject, but in essence, if you want to move up the ladder, there is no quicker way than to give much more and do much more than is expected of you!

8. Be decisive. In all decisions you need to be decisive. Think quick, act quick and be sure of yourself. This is something that you need to work on and develop, but once you can trust yourself, others will follow and trust you when you can make a quick and solid decision. It is ok to make a mistake, and from those mistakes you will learn the right way to do those things you wish to do, but it is never good to waffle and be indecisive!

9. Be forgiving (to yourself and to others). I know this is one of those “sounds much easier to say than it is to do” things. And I also know that for most people it is easier to forgive someone else then it is to forgive you. But both of these skills are a must-have if you are going to be successful. Simply be forgiving and always find a way to forgive yourself for those things that you just happen to do. You will feel that great release and will be able to concentrate and focus on those goals when your mind is clear.

10. Save Money. This is one of those “for all times” recommendations. The habit of saving is one that will benefit you in all times. When money is short…you will have some. When that “great – once in a lifetime” opportunity shows itself… you will have money. Friends, family and employers will all look at someone who is capable of saving with a different respect than one who seems to always be in need.

I have another ten of these I believe I will share with you at a later date, but this is a great place to start. Go over this list and make them yours, again, fine tune them to fit you and your goals, as well as your personality, but, try them, use them and live them!

Save money is very important, if you have no money, you will be too hungry to do what you like to.

  2. Benny Greenberg Says:

Saving money is very important, but learning the skill and habit of saving that money is much more important. Once you make that savings plan habitual - you will never HUNGER for anything!

  9. Susie Says:

As it should be, in one nice summary! Love it Benny!

Even though it has to do with money… If I was faster on my feet today, I was almost “generous” but opportunity went by to quick and the little old lady in front of me at the grocery store that had to put an item back, because she was 3.00 short would have benefited… easy, simple steps like that will have to create a pay it forward movement. I had my hands full of groceries, and when my brain finally caught on, I didn’t have a fast enough reaction, I fumbled for my purse, and my singles, and by that time, she had paid the cashier…

There are many out there that don’t have an extra 3 bucks, but there are those that do… just think what it would mean to someone.. no matter your actions, monetary or not.

But time and talent are also quite important, if you have a talent, give it away at a charity auction, educate someone on something they are not aware of, you never know how that can open doors.

Simple, steps, will help us create a unity as well as help us create a backbone in our society, that there are people out there that are willing to help, and not bite your head off…

    :) Great Post My Friend!

Susie - I often pop for the extra dollar or three when in line - It just seems to be the right thing to do! Reading your comment actually was quite inspiring! And as a hint - wait till they all read your GUEST POST!

  11. cchiovitti Says:

Being forgiving of yourself is essential. We won’t go anywhere in life if we aren’t willing to make a few mistakes on our journey.

  12. Benny Greenberg Says:

We learn from each and every mistake. Actually they are no so much mistakes as they are ingredients in our recipe to success!

  13. Robin Easton Says:

    EXCELLENT List!!!
I relate to every one of these and so it was a wonderful reminder! Very fortifying to read. Thank you Benny.

  14. Benny Greenberg Says:

Robin - Another one of my upcoming guest posters! Thanks for the fortifying comment!

  15. Dwayne from Probably Sucks Blog Says:

I agree with most of your points, however: I find blaming other people for my problems helps me feel secure and sleep easier at night. Every night before I fall asleep I revel in my success whilst sleeping on top of massive wads of cash, dream about pushing old people down large sets of stairs and slave children make me shoes to sell at fairs.

Just joking… I don’t really sleep on top of massive wads of cash.

    Dwayne.

  16. Benny Greenberg Says:

I tried that “sleeping on massive wads of cash” for a while. Though “comforting” it is not comfortable. Lots of twisting and turning and sleepless nights. Maybe that is why you have those “Dreams.” I advise using some of that cash for the good of others… the dreams will be much sweeter! (even if you are working hard on the Sucks Blog)

  17. Just Sayin'... Says:

I’m afraid I’m gonna have to side with Dwayne on this one.

  18. Benny Greenberg Says:

So you are uncomfortable in your sleep as well? Or was it a shameless plug for your blog? Either way - Welcome aboard!

  19. K Fields Says:

A Very Good Post! Which is a given with your writing skilz Benny! I enjoy reading these, it helps keep things in perspectivity… my own new word! I say if you can’t find the word to describe what you feel… then make one! :)

I liked the “be decisive”!! I noticed that when I am. That it gives others the impression that I have confidence. Even if I am secretly shaking in my boots… :)

  20. Benny Greenberg Says:

Thanks Kim - and that appearance to others of your confidence - will breed your own confidence as well! Dress the part - be the part!

  21. OutsideMyBrain Says:

Thanks for the great tips! These can help anyone, no matter, what rung of the ladder they find themselves on. Plus, they are timeless!

  38. Rod Newbound Says:

    Thanks Benny. Well done.

Saving money as a habit goes far beyond the obvious. When you have untouched funds tucked away, you have a sense of security that gives you strength in stressful situations.

Beyond that, it creates a balance to consumption. And the universe demands balance in all things.

  39. Benny Greenberg Says:

The Universe wants balance - so karma is a bitch… Stay on the positive side of that karma…

Money (though many people call it the root of all evil) has many positive benefits. It makes one feel safe, secure and confident.
