Mind Games I
Tuning Up The Band - 12 Mind Busting Stimulants
We all know that there are just THOSE times that our mind-body needs a little boost. Interesting thing about that is many of the best BOOSTERS around tend to be things that we already do. Once you become conscious of the effect that they have on you, you will always know how and when to recall those boosters you need. Seek them out from within your own mind!
A Dozen Mind Busting Stimulants
Sexual Expression or transmuted sexual expressions can key the mind up for amazing and incredible feats of inspiration. One of – if not the most – stimulation of the Mind/Body boosts!
Love is the ultimate aim of most people’s sexual desire. But it serves several purposes. If you can combine love and the desire for sex you then have the most unbeatable mind/body stimulant possible!
A little play is a fantastic way to let that subconscious mind get to work. I try to work the theory of 8-hrs of work, 8-hrs of sleep and 8-hrs to play – enjoy something – use the time to just relax – but use it for YOU!
Your religion and or your faith are the noble stimulants. They are full of assurances. Your faith need not come from religion, but those with faith in themselves and their religion (be it what it may) have a great way to renew their sense of purpose.
Mastermind Alliances are another of the most powerful stimulants; and we will visit that in the next part of this Mind Games Series; but if you can seek out the zeal and understanding of other people when you need a lift and a boost your mind-body will be forever grateful. Mutual suffering will cause people to work together and pool their minds in a focused direction; the direction of relief of their suffering. You may want to hang around for the next part of this series – we come up with some really awesome theories and ideas.
Autosuggestion is a way of implanting the ideas you want in your conscious mind, by training your subconscious mind. Stay tuned for a post entitled “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep” It will show you how you can really use this to your mental and physical advantages. You will be able to use it whenever you need it, and it will be at the ready, with little effort!
Music is full of everything that moves the mind and body as well as your soul. I can honestly say that this is more of a new concept top me and I have to thank Kelly from “What does this song mean to me” for really showing me what music can do. But give it some thought. Music is full of rhythm, pulses and beats. You can select the type of music to to calm you down, spur you into action or allow you to deeply feel the sexual expression and love.
Working hard on that burning desire, your obsession, your ultimate goal is another awesome stimulant. Check out my 4-step plan. It will help you get that goal and that desire and your mind moving to where you ultimately want to be!
Exercise is another super stimulant. It allows you to burn off pent up energies. To refresh the muscles while driving away frustrations and clearing and stimulating the brain with fresh blood and oxygen. Exercise is a fantastic way to think up new ideas. A win-win as it trains both the mind and the body!
Friendship is a great stimulant. Talk your problems and your accomplishments over with your friends. Laugh with them and help them smile as they help you smile too.
Work is another wonderful stimulant. It is an opportunity for creative expression and imagination. Try something small like returning a phone call or even better yet, how about a hand-written thank-you note to someone that really deserves it. Not an email, but make it a task. Write it, mail it and enjoy the creativity.
Children are amazing inspirations. Those of us who have children know how much they can inspire you. My amazing daughter just shocked me by applying to join the Peace Corps. I didn’t know if I wanted to kill her or hug her; But what a great inspiration. Build strong relationships with your children. Spend as much time with them as you can, and then add just a few more minutes to that. There is always time for your children. Don’t have kids? Then volunteer your time at a church, school or foster home. Help other children and watch how much it will help you too.
You mental and your physical health are tied together. You really cannot separate the two. While you are working to strengthen one, you should be working to strengthen the other. A positive effect on your metal attitude will lead you to work on positive physical changes. And we all know that positive physical changes are a fantastic mental-attitude adjuster. You mind and your body will take you to those places you want to be, to your ultimate successes. Take care of both of them and they will take care of you.

Benny,
Very nice ideas on stimulating your mind. The one I would agree the most is that children are the best source of inspiration. As parents we should not forget to devote as much time as possible to our children not because we have to but because we ought to.
Thanks again.

I’ve been reading about the mind/health connection lately. It is powerful stuff.
Thanks for boiling it down to 12 short steps.

Great list Benny! I think on there friendship is the most important…especially during these hard economic times we just need to keep each other laughing.

It’s so good to have you back Ben and it’s good to be able to smile again without bringing on a migraine. From the cell level outward we humans are so complex and yet so simple. Friendship and the good times I share with the kids in the youth group are right up there on my list but don’t tell my man that. He thinks sex is number 1, 2,3 4,5, (just joshing) …lol

It REALLY is good to have you back Ben. I know I was not the only who missed you.
This is a WONDERFUL list! These might appear such simple things to some people and hence they often get brushed off and people start looking for the answers somewhere else…as if the asnswer surely had to be more complex. BUT it’s not. It really is this simple. It’s just a matter of bringing all the things you mention here into one’s life…EVERYDAY. In many ways Life really is very simple and we overlook the obvious. Thanks Ben, R

Hey Benny…
Each and every one of your 12 points are important to achieve quality mental and physical health…we are complex…
You are so right… we can’t separate mental health from physical health… they are dependent on each other…something people often don’t understand!
Cheers

I agree, but would hesitate to call religion a “noble” stimulant, as it can hinder one’s ability to recognize patterns through false assurances; in essence, religion eventually becomes a diminishing agent for achieving the good things associated with it, if history is any reference.

@Danny - Religion and Politics - they are basically subjects I go no where near in a public forum. If one’s belief - no matter whether in Deity or self - guides them to higher ground… it is a noble stimulant!

I will agree with you to a point on this because I have defined clear points of spiritual truth for myself. However, I would argue that if exposed to rational thought or honest, informed debate with other faiths, most organized religions would be consumed by paradox or at least exhibit cracks that would shake their followers’ concepts of reality in a psychologically damaging way. If people stop probing the mystery of what appears to be an infinite universe because they believe that their religion is the only possible explanation, then can you honestly say that the temporary comfort and possibly misguided motivation of an inappropriately founded faith are worth the personal and communal side-effects? I would be very interested in discussing this with you in further depth if you have any interest in doing so.

Again - I have but one thought…Moderation is a wiser policy than zealotry.
Religion is that which you talk of though… It is the blind faith in the Mystery… It does not matter which religion… does it? There is always a faith in that mystery. When two people fall in love… Strangers from different backgrounds who seem to be able to be the missing part to the other… is that not a mystery that faith has allowed you or I or she to understand and grasp and fill the soul with? The great void that is - US- the human - is always filled with belief and faith. In ourselves, in the ones we love and trust - or in that deity or idol we hold dear… Explanations notwithstanding - it is the very fiber of our being…
Care to go on?
I am not a teacher of religion, and honestly - not the greatest of followers either. I have some knowledge, but always temper all of that with… moderation as far as my analysis.

Two contrasting things work for me:
Work - doesn’t matter what it is, just throwing 100% plus into a task is great. When my husband ran a contract cleaning company years ago, and I helped him out, I could get real satisfaction cleaning restrooms or mopping floors - a routine task that kept my body working while my mind could deal with whatever it needed to. Satisfaction on both counts at the end.
Relaxation - a couple of days ago when I was getting bothered about something I just went for a walk with my partner. Just looking around us and observing life, both nature and human, with all its surprises and idiosynchrasies, is uplifting.
