Concentration 101

There are a multitude of exercises that are designed to help your concentration; and I believe later on we may go into a few of them (Hey we are working our way to the best possible person you can be).  In almost all of the books I have read on the subject of concentration, the training of certain parts of your mind and body are explained and refined in and during a series of exercises that are specific to one area at a time each building upon the previous; and that is exactly what we will be doing - eventually.

Concentration to eliminate nervousness, worry, temper and fears of all kinds are tops on the lists and there are many more aspects of life that concentration and the development of concentration are incredibly effective upon.  Who could disagree with working on eliminating all of these habits by refining specific concentration methods to do so; it is a great way to redirect the bad habit and working on your concentration will in the end be a fantastic tool you can use to your full advantage.

I am a huge advocate of developing various methods of concentration; and as I said earlier, we are definitely going to go over my top-ten list of concentration tools.  But the fundamental flaw I have always thought existed in the teaching of concentration is the order in which exercises are brought about.

No, its not that I want to retool your ability to stop twitching as a nervous habit first before anything else or adjust the level of concentration you have in regards to your temper third of all, though I actually believe that there is a quasi-order, but the order is not so dependant as is the faith in your own concentration.

Ahhh - we have touched the first anchor point.  Yes!  You need to believe you can do it.  What good is all the techniques and training if in the end you do not have faith in your own abilities?  So - Before I even start to give you the tools that will drive your concentration levels so high you will amaze yourself, or before I show you ways to use your concentration to do anything - first - its time to work on faith concentration.

Ya-ttitude’ism:

Faith Concentration - A belief in the power to concentrate.

I purposely placed this idea here prior to getting into a series of exercises that would not have done a thing for you, because you would have doubted them and worse you have doubt in yourself and your abilities.  I know there are those of you out there,  I can see you - shaking your head and rolling your eyes at me, that are so afraid of failure that you have no desire to try any of these ideas.  Of course you mask that fear behind some really great “jokes” about the concepts, or you will simply ignore the idea and move on with your less-than-successful life all the while sure that YOU have all the answers and there is nothing out here that can help you.

You need not be afraid of failing in this or in anything else.  There are two major points’ right here and right now - so stop shaking your head and rolling your eyes long enough to read the next paragraph (or two).  Those of you who are ready to take your lives to the next level help those who are afraid by sitting real close to them now - or giving them positive vibes as you read this next section, your positive vibes will help them eliminate their negative vibes and together we all can get to the next step.

Fear vs. Faith (One)

The beauty about this match is that YOU have full control over the outcome.  You see, fear and faith make horrible bedfellows, and cannot occupy the same space at the same time.  Now this is quite advantageous.  As you increase your faith in you and in what you are doing, about to do, getting ready to do and have done - you automatically have decreased the fear in the same operation.

The greater the faith - the lesser the fear

Complete faith in you and your actions - No more fear at all in you and your actions.  It really is as simple as that.  There is no secret to it - just believe in you and what you are doing.  Of course that belief has to be real and has to be there because you know that there is no way to stop you from getting what it is you want.  You know that because you will do whatever it takes to makes your goals and dreams a success and do it to the best of your abilities while always taking the high road.  Ya - there is a catch - there is no lying, cheating or stealing allowed.  You can do everything and be anything as long as you are doing it the right way.

We are the sum of all we have been (Two)

There is never a need to be afraid of failing.  The thing you need to be afraid of is the inability to decide.  Of course you are going to fail, and I am willing to bet you have failed a few times prior to reading my stuff too.  Hey - we all fail; it is what makes us what we are.  The failures are the building blocks, the ingredients to the recipe to our successes.  So go for it! - fail a little - even fail a lot - but the only way you will be a failure is when you allow that failure to get in the way of your success.

There are few obstacles in life that will not succumb to consistent, sustained, intelligent, positive action. When you are discouraged after you’ve failed at something, remember some of the greatest inventions in life were born from some of the greatest failures.  The average person quits after a failure, which might be exactly why there are so many average people and so few great ones.  You’re a great one on the rise - because there is no quit it you!

You need to read this section a few times.  I am going to take a pause - just here so you can read and reread this a few times.  Think about why you are going to be the best at what you are doing.  Why there is nothing that has a chance of stopping you as you move towards your ultimate success and why you are now another step closer.

    Great insights.

Dealing with failure is the greatest lesson to learn in order to find success.

This will never be easy, but you are doing a great job at making it understandable.

    Thanks Erik,

Like I said “Hey - we all fail” - The sooner you realize that it is a good thing and somehting you can use - the better you will be in the long run

Benny - I found a great (and free) site for making a goals list … http://www.43things.com/ might be worth checking out :)

    Hey Melissa,

Thanks for the idea – But in all honesty I see very little to none – on the “advantage to your future scale.” By simply listing your goals on a “website” or “blog” as opposed to the system I introduced whereas you need to be handwriting ands driving those goals into your subconscious seems to be a weak attempt and you’re not going to accomplish anything with a weak attempt. I do not think that a Social Media Website for you goals is helpful at all. By simply looking at other peoples goals and checking a “I want to do this” will get you no where…

You need to decide for yourself what it is you want to do and how and when you are going to do it. Yes, help is something you want to have and a like-minded group of people who will be there for you while you work towards your goal is important - but random people on a website – who you do not know and do not know you is of no help.

Simply: You need to “handwrite” your goals. And have them somewhere you can see them and read them every night and every morning – not on a website for others to decide that “they are cool goals; I think I want to do that too.”

Sorry Melissa - there are no shortcuts to becoming great, it involves work and effort and desire - I know you have it!

    Ben

P.S. I wonder if that is brought to you by the same people who do http://www.43folders.com Or was it a attempt to use the popularity of that site into something that seems worthwhile?

Benny - Your point is well taken. I did create a list (several actually) by hand - But don’t judge a book by its cover, the site asks you to post your goals and fill in the why or things around it… not a replacement, just another means of reinforcement. Being held accountable for the goals you set - whether it be by another person or an email reminder is sometimes just enough reinforcement to put you back on track. I use several tools to keep me focused and on track, the computer (not necessarily this web site) being one of them.

For example - I’ve been moaning about getting a new vehicle for a very long time and simply kept putting it off. I finally put it in writing to a friend of mine that I was going to have a new car by May 1st. Once I shared that goal and made it “concrete” I was able to take the steps to make it happen. I picked up my Commander on May 1st - exactly as I stated. The funny thing was - not all of that occured by my own hand. Things simply fell into place for me to easially make it happen.

There are no short cuts in life - but there is nothing wrong in utilizing several tools until you find the one or two that work for you.

Melissa – I could probably do a post on this subject. First of all – you do realize that you have hit on a multitude of points here – not just the ability to create a plan – or list of goals - or even a short/long to-do list.

    1. Accountability: If you are “embarrassed into” finishing your work – doing your list – or working your goals – then odds are – they aren’t really GOALS that you want to accomplish. I agree that the more ways available to help you accomplish your goals the better – but the initial reinforcement had to come from within. You have to feel a strong emotional desire to do that what it is you want to achieve.
    2. Focus has to come from within especially at the start. And we will work on that over the next few posts. You really need to develop focus without the help of artificial stimuli. Going to a website to post your goals may add focus – once you are on the web – you will easily be persuaded to lose it — at least until you have found the inner power to concentrate on the ONE task at hand!
    3. Procrastination – So you are a member of those procrastinators? No – you just had other things to do that were way higher on your list. The car – though something you wanted – was not something yon needed – and thusly it was allowed to go to the backburner. You either eventually caught up – or found the time to take on some of the smaller wants…
    4. Decisions are still the number one cause of death to anyone’s plans – well the lack thereof anyway. Those who cannot decide to start never do – and just kind of float along wishing for success.

It is obvious that you have focus and desire and a plan and several goals in life. And it is quite advantageous to use today’s technology to help them along.

But after wandering around that site for a few hours – All I can really get from it is the ability to goal 2.0 or Social media my goal with other like-minded goal seekers. Most of the design here is based on getting common goals posted on as many profiles as possible.

I think though the idea may be a good one – in the end it will be the “my space” of “my problems” - - too bad – the idea is a grand one.

    I may have just written a post…
